Can the Human Gut Microbiome Really Influence Brain Function and Behavior? (7 อ่าน)

I’ve been reading more about the gut microbiome and the idea of a gut–brain axis, and I’m curious about how strong the biological evidence actually is.

There seem to be several possible pathways involved, including immune signaling, microbial metabolites, the vagus nerve, and changes in neurotransmitter-related processes. What I find difficult is separating well-supported findings from broader claims that sometimes appear in popular health articles.

When researching topics like this, keeping track of individual studies and what each one actually demonstrates becomes important. Students doing literature-based biology projects may find annotated bibliography help useful for organizing sources, summarizing findings, and comparing evidence before developing a larger research argument.

How convincing is the current evidence that changes in the gut microbiome can directly influence cognition or behavior in humans? Are most of the stronger findings still based on animal studies, or has human research become more conclusive?
